The watchdog style intervention that the United States recently exhibited on Iraq undoubtedly raises debates on many global issues. The war on terror in Afghanistan was seen within the tolerance of a strike-back of the 9/11. The basic facts that were held by the US on the attack in Iraq were on chemical weaponry and Al Qeida connections. Never it was proclaimed about the miserable state of affairs under the regime of Saddam Hussain that led to the US occupancy.
This article is not a political one. This is not aimed at making judgments. This
is an outsider's view of the destiny of the Iraqi people from a humanitarian
perspective. I don't say Saddam is right, and Bush as well. I say that it
was neither terrorism nor freedom struggle in Iraq. For the common Iraqi, it was
a matter of bread and butter. For the provoked Iraqi, it was a matter of denial
of human rights.
One can no way compare Iraq with Afghanistan or Kashmir. It cannot be
compared with Palestine too!. Saddam Hussain ruled the country as a dictator;
there could be more people who opposed his regime, than who supported it. There
are rulers and dictators elsewhere who bears the same profile within their
respective countries. Why are they not been noted as war provocators?
The American Role
How
can a single nation arise by her own and police the entire world? If the USA
could do that, and other nations cannot do anything about it, that would amount
to a super-dictatorial regime over the world. If Saddam irresponsibly rules
Iraq, then it is up to the Iraqis to topple him. What best they could do is to
get international assistance to do so.
We have the United Nations Organisation. The whole issue of Iraq war was
discussed, debated and voted. No support came out unanimously for starting a
war; but war did start! United States or United Nations: who is powerful?
The Plight
Saddam
was captured and is now world's leading prisoner of war. He should be handed
over to the Iraqi people through UN intervention. Saddam's plight is not
the pivotal point to discuss; but the large number of suffering mothers,
fathers, brothers and children of Iraq.
The losing value for humans
Recently, an American was held hostage and brutally killed in Saudi Arabia. I am
also sad about this, and join the sadness of the bereaved family. He was an innocent
victim of terrorism.
I could see that the execution of Mr.Johnson had wide coverage with prominence
in the media. But, why don't all of us see the tens of poor Iraqi people dying
every day? Bush or Saddam; whatever it is, the world needs to see these people.
Aren't their lives not as important as Johnson? (Please see few photos of
sufferings in Iraq: link at the bottom of this page)
Let us never forget the reality of the horrors of war, made even more obscene when waged by those who claim the moral high
ground. The reality belies their vacuous rhetoric, and reveals their lack of true compassion. War is never right... there has to be a better way!

look at them again!
